Our Mission

To enrich, educate, and entertain the community through film and art.

The Maine Film Center is the 501(c)(3) non-profit parent organization of Railroad Square Cinema and the Maine International Film Festival. Since our formation in 1987, we’ve developed robust independent and community-curated film series, delivered impactful educational programs for all ages, and for each of the past 20 years hosted “the best-curated film event in New England.” According to MovieMaker, we provide “an oasis of programming perfection in Northern New England” at “one of the country’s finest independent movie theaters.”

Our Programs

Forty years ago we opened the doors of Maine's independent cinema. We're still reeling.

Founded in 1978, our Sundance Art House cinema showcases the best of American independent and international new releases, cult classics, and community-curated film series.

Since 1998, MIFF brings 100 films, 50 filmmakers, and 10,000 filmgoers to Central Maine over 10 days of world premieres, guest presentations, receptions, and exhibitions.

Good programs make good neighbors.
